Schleckser Sailing Fund
The mission of the Schleckser Sailing Fund is to support LYC sailors and honor the sailing values held by Mark Schleckser.

Mark Schleckser
Mark was an avid, passionate, and skilled competitive sailor. He loved sailboat racing and won many national and local Championships. These included seven Hobie 16’ and fourteen B-Cat Championships as part of the Barnegat Yacht Racing Association. Mark was a proud representative of LYC racing. He was inducted into the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame, Class of 2012.
One of his great joys was introducing and mentoring people in order to grow the activity of sailing. Mark supported junior sailing and their regattas as a volunteer. He also enjoyed pleasure sailing on his Island Packet.
Mark served on the Board of Trustees at Lavallette Yacht Club.

The Schleckser Fund
The Schleckser Fund provides financial grants to individuals who are members of the LYC in good standing that seek funding for activities and programs that fulfill the Funds Vision Statement.
Vision Statement
The mission of the Schleckser Sailing Fund is to support LYC sailors and honor the sailing values held by Mark Schleckser. The funding of the Foundation will be based upon the annual interest on the endowment.
Application Information
Worthy applications that fit the vision of the fund. The application, together with a cover note, should be sent to the Fund’s Secretary by mail or by email. Each requestor will be notified in writing, and in a timely fashion, of the action of the Fund regarding a particular grant request.
A request for a grant can be submitted at any time. The Fund considers such requests at the meetings of the Schleckser Fund Committee which are typically held four times per year. Requests may be considered and grants awarded more frequently, at the discretion of the Fund. Typically, grants are awarded in amounts of between $100 and $1,000, depending on the circumstances of the request. The Fund reserves the right, however, to provide only part of the funding sought by a requestor. Applicants may apply once during the calendar year. All materials submitted with a grant request become the property of the Fund and all decisions by the Fund regarding a grant award are final.
The Fund requires that once a grant is awarded, the recipient must provide receipts in order to be reimbursed expenses from the fund. Failure to do so may disqualify the winner from the receiving reimbursement. In extenuating circumstances, funding may be made in advance of the expense. In these situations, a full accounting must be made in a timely manner or the winner will be disqualified from any subsequent grants.
Grant applications for events must be submitted at least thirty days prior to the start of the event.
Examples of eligible grant applications would include but not be limited to:
- Entry Fees for travel regattas for junior and adult members sailing for LYC.
- Junior sailing scholarships for LYC members.
- Worthy applications that fit the vision of the fund.
